Non-ARB recurring billing in Authorize.net from within CiviCRM
May 14, 2010, 07:52:52 am
Hi there,

I'm new to these forums. I'm looking into configuring CiviCRM for recurring transactions using Authorize.net. I've read in another forum thread that it's possible to set up Authorize.net ARB to work, but without Civi monitoring the transactions — and that doesn't make much sense to me.

I'm wondering why the transactions aren't set up as monthly billing within CiviCRM with the ability to create invoices and set daily cron jobs to look for invoices that come due each day and process them? The end of each daily billing process would generate a new invoice for the following month. I also run a web hosting business and I do that with my hosting clients using ClientExec. I'm not that familiar with how CiviCRM bills yet, so I don't know if it retains the contributor's credit card info with their member account. Doesn't look like it does, but I'll find out.

Anyway, does anyone know if any work has been done to create this specific functionality, or if it already exists as a plugin somewhere?

Thanks,
herongrace

Another community member has (xfortymatt) has done some work on getting this in place. You can read about what he's got here:
http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,6751.msg53528.html#msg53528

... and test it out, potentially extend or improve it if needed. Do post back with questions and once you have something that works well, you should contribute it back to the codebase by filing an issue in the issue tracker and including a patch against the 'trunk' version of the affected file(s). Best to ping folks on IRC for interactive QA.

NOTE: CiviCRM does NOT store credit cards - but relies on pingback from payment processor to automatically post recurring payments. The code for PayPal Website Standard (IPN) does this as well.

Thanks for your reply David, and for the URL.
I appreciate it. Going to go check it out now.
