Custom Data Groups not showing as profile field
May 03, 2007, 10:55:40 am
Using Joomla and CiviCRM

I have set up a profile, custom data groups and custom fields within those groups.  When I go to add a new Profile Field I can see the custom data fields but not the groups.  What am I doing wrong? Thanks

Cindy

Cindy,
The Custom Data Groups provide a way to organize sets of custom fields on the View / Edit Contact screens which are available to your staff / internal team etc. (Find Contacts -> View or Edit from the CiviCRM menu).

For Profiles - which are used to expose selective fields to constituents/the public - you can select any or all of the individual custom fields from your custom data group to add to the profile. We don't currently allow you to add an entire "group" of custom fields to a profile in one shot. Hope that clarifies things.

Dave,
Thanks for responding so quickly.

This is my second time setting this up for a client (I discovered most of the problems I was having on her other set up were due to her host so we switched hosting).  On the other set up, it seemed that I had a group and custom data fields on the form.  There was a Group heading (title?) and then under that the custom data fields.  For instance, under the group Professional, I had custom data fields for License number, type of profession, etc.  On the form it showed up as Professional being a heading and then the custom fields under that.  Is there another way of doing that?  Thanks

Cindy

Cindy - This is how an "Inline" custom data group will appear on the Add / Edit Individual forms. If you want to replicate this in a Profile, you can assign all the fields to the Profile and set the Profile Title = to the Custom Group Title.

Ok got it.

On another issue...I have set up Online Registration (this is just so cool!!) however I need for registrants to have the capability of Multi Selecting Event fees.  For instance, registrants can register as a Parent, Professional, Student, etc.  Then they have an option to add a Certificate for $10 and they also have an option to attend the Luncheon $25.  I would just set up another Fee Label/option but there is also a choice for Group Rate.  How would I set it up for someone who has 5 participants who all want to attend the luncheon?  Thanks.

This functionality is not available in 1.7 BUT is being developed and contributed for  1.8 by Marshall Newrock and Ideal Solutions (hooray). The spec for this is here:

Marshall is pretty far along with the code - so it will definitely be part of 1.8 - due for beta sometime in June.
