Civicase useability issues
May 16, 2010, 02:16:23 pm
I have a counselling services client for which civicase is pretty close to what they need. Until recently they have been using civicrm 2.1.2 with activities for recording client interactions.

I have upgraded to 3.1.3 (which they have used for a few weeks) and I am now enabling civicase.

1) Their existing contacts already have a case, and their existing activities are attached to the case, which is what we want. Their clients will almost always have a 1-1 relationship with a case.
2) There is now 2 ways to enter an activity - through the contact or the case.
a) The case method has less options and is less friendly than through the contact, which they already use. Do I need to force them to use this and hide the contact activity method ?
b) Entering activities through the contact the new activity is not attached to a case, and there is no option to do so. Is there a way to do this ?
3) Are there relevent improvements in 3.1.4 or the latest code that I should look for ?

Thanks for any advice,

Gary

Regarding 2(b), in Civi 3.2 there will be. In 3.1 you can only do it if it's an Inbound Email.
So the answer to 2(a) is yes you would need to force them to add it from the case screen.

For #1 I'm not sure what you're asking. Are you asking how to bulk create cases and transfer existing non-case activities onto them? There's no existing code for that that I know of.

For #3 you can check out http://issues.civicrm.org and limit the results to civicase and version 3.1 to see the list.
