Is it possible to send an email without using an HTML portion?

Under the "Mailings" menu, if I leave out the HTML portion of an email when composing, it complains of missing tokens, although the tokens are present in the text version of the message.

Please correct the following errors in the form fields below:

    * The following errors were detected in html message:
          o This message is missing a required token - {domain.address}: Domain address - displays your organization's postal address.
          o This message is missing a required token - {action.optOutUrl}: 'Opt out via web page' - creates a link for recipients to click if they want to opt out of receiving emails from your organization. Alternatively, you can include the 'Opt out via email' token.

This is what I have at the bottom of the main body of the text. I have an extra line after the last visible line below as well.

To not receive email from XXXXXX, please copy the link below into a new browser page, or just click on:
{action.optOutUrl}

This email is being sent from:
{domain.address}

I am traveling for the next 3 days, but will try it all out after that. Thanks for the hint to check footer and header. At this time, I don't know the answer to that.
