Number of Contacts in Your CiviCRM Database
May 24, 2010, 07:21:13 am
Hello all,
I'm trying to get an idea of CiviCRM's scale on a single host/server and haven't found much information on the average number of contacts people are maintaining in their database and how well CiviCRM performs at these different tiers.  I'd love to get an idea on how many contacts your organization supports and how well CiviCRM performs.

I understand general performance is based on several variables (hosting solutions, DB config, hardware, etc), so if you can reply with your configuration, that would be helpful as well.  But I'd like to at least get an idea of the rough number of contacts supported in most implementations.

Thanks.

We've have imported around 60,000 contacts in our installation and it is running fine.

I've heard that democrats.com has around 250,000 contacts but have yet confirmed that.

We are planning on an installation of 750,000 contacts so I think the system can scale up fine.

MySQL can hold millions or more records no problem, CiviCRM uses innoDB engine so it uses row locking instead of table locking so it has good performance, it also uses caching table and mem-cache for querying performance as well.

Hope it helps  :)
