Baseurl problem which does not let me sign up new members
May 24, 2010, 09:32:09 pm
I have a strange problem and have not been able to match any previous posts with this problem.

I installed joomla and civicrm before I configured the final domain name for the site and I have updated the resource urls in the civicrm configure to match our new domain.

Everything seems to be fine until a member tries to sign up and we get a fatal error. If I click return to site on the fatal error message then the url changes to the domain name of the hosting server (which we used during the install) and the second try (with the hosting domain name) goes through.

Reading several similar posts lets me know that the url has to be consistent during all steps of a registration and it therefore seems to me that joomla/civicrm still uses the domain name of the hosting server internally.

I have then enabled debug and can tell that the action element  (which refers to the form action element) to generate the sign up page contains the hosting server domain name but all other urls point to our domain.

I have then located the hosting domain url in civicrm.settings.php and changed that to our domain name. That did however not change anything (do I need to clear any caches besides the one in joomla tools menu??)

Any ideas how to update  domain names in joomla/civicrm (in addition to the resource urls that you can modify in the setup),  additional information you need to help me with the problem or how to debug this problem (where to start in the code)?

Thanks,
Thomas

Thanks a lot lcdweb,

It was a civicrm.settings.php problem as you suggested.

I have not realized that there is both a setting file for the front end and back end in joomla.

The site is back in business and everybody is happy again..

Cheers,
Thomas
