Not allow member directory on Joomla site?
May 25, 2010, 03:39:26 am
Just the opposite of other recent posts, I have a need to NOT allow viewing of a member directory to registered users on the front end.

It would be OK for "special" (administrators) to be able to search and view membership, but not regular members.

However, I do need the ability for users to view and edit their own contact information. I haven't been able to reconcile the two (above) pieces. Either nothing works or it all works for me :(

You won't get a member directory if the profile and the underlying fields are not listed as searchable by the public. If you just want people to edit their own records, then no searching is required.

That doesn't stop the user themselves editing their own details (provided that their Joomla login and their civicrm record are linked).

You could also make the link to the search page visible only to "special" (in J1.5) or restrict it further (as and when J1.6 goes into production).
