Hi,

Where can I find basic documentation on CiviCampaign as of CiviCRM version 3.3 onwards? There's plenty of pages on CiviEngage and its various components, mostly written in future tense and written before CiviCampaign became part of the main CiviCRM trunk.

I'm hoping that now CiviCampaign is an official part of a stable release, there'll be a simple, up to date, definitive page stating the basics like what it does and what it's intended for - like http://en.flossmanuals.net/CiviCRM/WHATISCIVIENGAGE but definitively up to date specifically for CiviCampaign.

From playing around on the demo, it seems like a 'Campaign' is a way of giving any number of 'Surveys' and 'Petitions' a start date, an end date and a set of groups of contacts. I'm sure I've missed something though. In particular, I'm looking to see if CiviCampaign is intended to be able to tie together campaign-related regular CiviCRM activities (an example use case in the old CiviEngage pages in the manual talks about using CiviEngage to tie together phone activities relating to a direct action).

It'd also be good to clear up the relationship between CiviCampaign and CiviEngage: I've seen some confusion on whether CiviEngage is deprecated or not. As I understand it, CiviCampaign will one day replace CiviEngage, but until then both are still supported and under active development. CiviEngage has some functions not yet implemented in CiviCampaign, is Drupal-only, and requires more work to set up. This is pieced together from multiple sources, plus personal trial and error - is this right?

hey alan:

no documentation on CiviCampaign as yet. However there are some fairly good specs AND a good set of blog posts that cover most of the features/highlights. Would be great if you could help out and make the first attempt at writing the documentation for this :)

To answer your specific questions:

1. Campaign cannot tie together a set of campaign related activities as yet, i..e its not integrated with the other components. Thats the next phase for campaign and we'll get started on that once we can "make-it-happen" and find a lead sponsor

2. Campaign is not integrated with Engage either. We have not worked out the logistics behind this either :(. Yes Engage is a Drupal only module and will likely be that for the near future. I dont think we'll be migrating engage functionality into campaign or civicrm core, unless we get a fair amount of support from the joomla community.

p.s> since u r  a joomla user, might want to consider supporting the joomla acl integration make-it-happen:
