Importing Past Recurring Transactions
May 25, 2010, 12:30:07 pm
In the process of importing transactions from the past (2009 and before), we wish to import certain transactions as "Recurring" because they were recurring subscriptions through a payment gateway that is soon-to-be no longer in use.   The reason why this matters is for searching and accounting purposes.

I can't see that a transaction can be imported as recurring, this label is only attached to contributions which are processed through CiviCRM as recurring (such as paypal standard subscriptions) first.   I cannot import "recurring" donations and have these donations labeled as such, right?  Or can I?

I understand that recurring contribution data is stored in a different table civicrm_contribution_recur, which has more data in this table that I need to store, as these are past recurring contributions we simply want to be able to search for and sort appropriately.

Is the alternative to create a Yes/No Contribution Custom field that is like "Is this recurring?"  This seems redundant.  any ideas?

1. the recurring contribution is just a meta record with overall details / status of the entire recurring set. each individual contribution is still stored in civicrm_contribution with a link the recurring contribution record

2. any specific reason, u dont want to do a custom import and adhere to the recurring structure? might make things easier in the long run.

3. would be great if we can start working towards improving recurring contribution support in civicrm, especially for the offline cases

Thanks for the reply.

Regarding #2, I would like to stick to any recurring structure that exists.  But I don't see how I can import external recurring contributions at all and make them into recurring contributions in CiviCRM.  It's not an option in the field matching during the "import contributions" process.

Am I missing something?  Could you elaborate?

PS. These older recurring contributions were subscriptions that existed long before CiviCRM came into the picture for this client.  But I would still like to import the contributions and have them labeled as recurring for sorting and historical purposes.

stoob:

by custom import i meant custom code that imports your data and maps it to the civicrm_contribution_recur and civicrm_contribution tables

If you get this part right, then you should be able to use the search and other reporting features for recurring now and in the future
