Not able to install CiviCRM on Joomla 1.5.17

All,

I am running a Joomla 1.5.15 based website and am trying to install CiviCRM 3.0.
It is not installing this and is also not showing any errors.

Once the zip is uploaded, it redirects to an unrelated page or shows a blank page.

I have also increased the execution time and the upload file size limit, but that also does not seem to work.

Please help.

Did you unpack the zip file and use the install from directory option?
support CiviCRM through 'make it happen' initiatives!

Thank-you for the help.

I tried that but it now shows this message.

"Your PHP version is missing zip functionality. Please ask your system administrator / hosting provider to recompile PHP with zip support.
If this is a new install, you will need to uninstall CiviCRM from the Joomla Extension Manager."

Please help.

use the joomla-alt version of the installation package
support CiviCRM through 'make it happen' initiatives!
