Error Message
April 21, 2007, 11:05:59 am
When I try to send e-mail from the site, I get the following error message:

Sorry. A non-recoverable error has occurred.

Return to CiviCRM menu.

Error Details:

Array
(
    [callback] => Array
        (

  • => CRM_Core_Error
  • [1] => handle
            )

Code: [Select]
=>
    [message] => Authentication failed.
    [mode] => 16
    [debug_info] =>
    [type] => pear_error
    [user_info] =>
    [to_string] => [pear_error: message="Authentication failed." code=0 mode=callback callback=CRM_Core_Error::handle prefix="" info=""]
)

Can someone suggest a solution?

Thanks.

Yes, your SMTP server settings are wrong/invalid/not-set. Please fix the SMTP hostname/username in the global settings page and the password in the civicrm.settings.php file

Re: Error Message SMTP Issues and Outgoing Mail Server
September 14, 2007, 05:33:06 pm
I spent hours on this, but a simple fix.

I am using Joomla v 1.0.12

Make sure your Outbound Mail Setting match that with the Mail Tab under Global Configuration in Joomla.   Once I did this everything worked.  I also used "localhost" in the smtp server setting under the SMTP Configuration.

I was browsing other forums and it seems others are having CiviMail issues and outing mail server issues.  This could be the result.

I had this same problem with another Joomla Component "VirtueMart"  Could be a common error.
