Hi,

I have been using CiviCRM to blast out emails for our organizations semi-yearly newsletter and for major announcements. This works GREAT since we have thousands of contacts!!

However our organization also needs to send quicker/smaller emails to specific groups from time to time such as to the board of directors or maybe to a specific committee. While I understand I can create groups for that in CiviCRM and use CiviMail to blast out email -- the fact we have to log in CiviCRM and create email there seems like a lot of work for something simple. Is there a way to blast it out from our own mailing system? Like for example, I know with Yahoo! Groups you could send out email to specific groups/members by simply sending email to an email address set up by yahoo groups like for example. "boardofdirectors@myorganization.org" from your own email client. And this would blast to all members that are in the group. Is there anything like this that CiviCRM supports?

They are at least two implementations of an interface between civi and a mailing list manager:
- one with mailman
- one with sympa

Mailman is async: it generates the list as a file once every few minutes, sympa connects directly to the db.

You might find more in the wiki, but you are likely to still have to do custom configuration.
