Bounced Emails unexplained and on hold
June 02, 2010, 10:06:17 am
I am working with a non-profit migrating to CiviCRM, and am using the CiviMail module with the paid version of CiviSMTP.
On May 6th we did a mailing to almost 15k members and there were over 1100 bounces.  Over 700 of those were unexplained.
I checked a few of the 700, and they are fine.

Questions
Why did these not go through?
How do I query just the ones that did not go through?
These are now "on hold" along with some bounces that were "out of office".  How do I do a mass update to take them off hold, as they are not receiving emails from us any longer?

Please help.

CiviSMTP will have to answer most of those, but let me have a jab at some:

What do you mean by ‘fine’? Were they delivered, or were the bounces meaningful (and so shouldn’t be unexplained)?

You should be able to see them in the mailing report (and you can do some SQL queries if you have the knowledge; everything is in the civicrm_mailing_* tables).

CiviCRM 3.2 will have the option to un-hold search results, but for now you can try making a profile with the on-hold status and then mass-updating the search results via a profile.
If you found the above helpful, please consider helping us in return – you can even steer CiviCRM’s future and help us extend CiviCRM in ways useful to you.
