Inconsistency in Profile Fields Availability?
June 03, 2010, 05:58:36 am
I'm really puzzled by this - maybe there's a logical explanation I'm missing. But it's put a crimp in our development.

When I import Individual Contacts, one of the mapping fields available is the "Note" field. I used this to put in our chapter names.

However, when I try to modify or create a Profile so I can display this field on a member listing, this field is unavailable for display on any of the drop-downs.

Puzzle #1: If this field is somehow constrained from being searched or displayed, why is it available for mapping on the importation? I don't get the logic.
Puzzle #2: I've read other threads indicating the unavailability of "multi-value" fields, of which "Notes" is sometimes cited as an example. But the note field in the import mapping is a single-value field, not multi-value. Are there two different note fields, and is it possible to make displayable the imported note data in any way in Individual Contact listings?

This is currently a limitation within Profiles. I think import creates a new note for the contact

If important to you, consider contributing code that adds this feature and/or hiring a developer/sponsoring the core team to add "multi-value" field functionality to profiles. I suspect it is not a trivial issue
