What I want to CiviCRM to do for me is that when someone registers for an event, and a new contact is created, to place that contact in a group. (The intent is to then manually review these contacts for duplicates etc)

Can I do this with profiles?

I note that the setting "Add new contacts to a Group?" has help text which says "Select a group if you are using this profile for adding new contacts, AND you want the new contacts to be automatically assigned to a group".

As I'm not strictly using this profile for that purpose, will it do what I hope it will? (Yes, I could test this, but my test server is 6 hours away... )
