Can CiviEvent handle these tasks?
June 09, 2010, 01:24:51 pm
I've been asked to consider CiviEvent to handle registrations for our Conferences group.  We're already preparing to make the switch to Drupal, so this seems like a good fit.  I've been playing with it some, and I've been able to setup some simple registration and info pages, but I have a few more items that I can't seem to nail down.  The things I need to be able to do are:

  • Allow users to submit proposals for papers or presentations and have them reviewed by conference admins.
  • Allow users to choose specific workshops in an event and allow a max enrollment for each workshop
  • Allow Conference evaluations for registrants after/during the conference.

Sorry to dump several things into one message, but I really need to see if CiviEvent will work for us before spending too much time on it and I thought that you all might be able to point me in the right direction either with CiviEvent functions or Drupal modules that would allow me to do these things.

Thanks,
Nate Baxley

    • Allow users to submit proposals for papers or presentations and have them reviewed by conference admins.

There is currently no workflow for sumbitting papers/presentations, and then a review/acceptance process. You can potentially get folks to attach a proposal to their registration, but then it will be handled manually. I suspect document management might be better done in drupal, alternatively if you have the funding you might be able to use CiviCase to do the workflow for the above. A fair amount of development will be required

You can do this via price-sets. The max enrollment will need to be handled via a drupal hook (but will also be a great addition to core)

    • Allow Conference evaluations for registrants after/during the conference.

If this is for registered participants only, this can potentially be done via profiles and hooks to make the evaluation specific to a participant and event
