Want to see if civicrm is up to the task

We have an emergency response organization; ie disaster response/relief and rescue, etc. that has units all across the US.

We would like to provide a way for each unit or teams leadership to login to an online system, and keep their members information upto date.  We need them to also be able to add current qualifications that each member has, along with expiration dates, etc, plus any other "required" member data that we would need.  Can this be done?

We would like to restrict access for non-team leaders, ie. normal volunteers, by only allowing them to view their data, but not able to make changes.  That way they can monitor that their information is correct and have their team leader make changes as needed.  Can this be done?  We could use the option to allow them to pay membership dues online, after looking at the system, and seeing that Click and Pledge is included as a payment processor.  The only problem is that I did not see anything on the site about setting up click and pledge to be used and the help icons don't really work either.  Would like a little more information about that.

Will civicrm work with a frontend user access system, such as Frontend-User-Access from http://www.pages-and-items.com/ ?  This are some items that I need information about before we can move forward on this.

How would civicrm work on dreamhost.com accounts?  That is who we use to host our Joomla! sites.

Thanks in advance.

If you need to isolate access to units for team leaders such that the leader of team A can only see members of team A - then I don't think you can do this with CiviCRM + Joomla w/ custom coding (you can do it via ACLs if you use CiviCRM + Drupal).

Also, CiviCRM requires a bit more horsepower than the basic (free / cheapest) Dreamhost accounts (based on the last time I saw feedback on this). So I guess the answer depends on what kind of Dreamhost account. For best performance you should host on a VPS.

I suspect CiviCRM can handle the data update / view requirements nicely "out of the box" including custom data for volunteers / members as well as online membership dues payment.

Not familiar w/ Frontend-User-Access module.

It would be ok if the team leaders are able to access all the volunteer data, they would just have to deal only with the ones that relate to their team.  What is the difference between Joomla! and Dupral?  I went from doing static html, handing coding it all myself to using Joomla!.  I don't know anything about Dupral.  How is it compared to Joomla?  I have the strictly business account, which is not free, but not sure if its VPS. Will check into that.

This is a good question, and asked often. See here: http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php?topic=13335.0
