Users added to mailing group via profile not receiving opt-in message?

I created a profile which collects first and last name, and e-mail address from an anonymous user, and adds the user to a mailing group. The user shows up in the group as "added by admin", and does not receive an opt-in mail. Is this expected? What can I do to ensure that users receive the mail?

I'm using 3.0.3 on Drupal right now, will be upgrading soon.

Basic mail settings are working, at least to the point where the SMTP test works.

I've now verified that the opt-in mail does go out if I subscribe via the CiviMail form at civicrm/mailing/subscribe?reset=1.

So the problem seems to be the difference between "added (by admin)" and "pending". One solution would be to have people added by the profile be added with status "pending" -- is that possible?

Yes, we distinguish ‘trusted’ and ‘untrusted’ sources; we ‘trust’ (and so do not verify) that when an admin adds a contact to a group, that contact is to be a part of that group.

Thanks for the reply, Piotr. That solution doesn't work for us because we want to collect other fields as well -- first name and last name -- and that looks like it is just for getting the email address?

Looks like this has been solved in 3.1.5, which we just upgraded to. My profile now adds users as "pending", and sends them the double opt-in email, which is what I wanted.
