getting contacts into Civi from a remote news letter sign up form

Hi there

I've been scouring the documentation and can't seem to find an answer to this, though I am new to civicrm, so maybe I'm not asking the right question.

this is what I am trying to do :

what I have :
1. I have a website using wordpress as a CMS with a contact form that currently goes straight to my email.

2. I have CiviCRM installed with Drupal in a subdiretory on my server (with no public access to the installation).
( I am mainly using civicrm to manage contact lists, and send out newsletter mail etc. at this point, to people who have signed up via the website or physically)

what I want to do :
is have the sign ups on the wordpress site get into the the appropriate group in civi crm,

can I get the form to add it directly to the database?  or can I set it up via email, where each signup is forwarded as a subscribe request to civicrm for a selected group ?

any thoughts on my options here?  right now I'm not up for moving my entire site to a drupal site just to add this functionality, and I am aware of three business partners of mine who are interested in using civi and have a similar situation of a pre existing site etc.  I went with drupal as it seemed to present the best default user interface for civcrm, at least to me.

any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Warmest Regards

Christopher Wilde

use the standalone profile for this. Check:

http://www.fsf.org/campaigns/acta/acta-declaration

its a plone site, the form at the bottom is a civicrm profile

hi

thanks, though I'm a little un clear, I can see the functionality displayed, so fantastic  - its possible.

when you say a standalone profile you don't mean the stand alone installation of civicrm right ?

trying to find details in the manual and having a look around my self, but unsure.

in civi I have navigated to Home › CiviCRM › Administer CiviCRM › CiviCRM Profile

and clicked on add new profile,  though i'm a little lost looking at that, could you drop a link to an appropriate discussion or manual chapter on how to set this up please?  I'll continue to search, thanks for the input so far :)

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, helped a lot, got it working on the other site, pretty damn simple when you know where to look....

I assume customizing its look on that site has to do the with code there (theres a crap black table that shows up - I'd like to make it look like the other form I have on my site, but I'll get there I'm sure .... still learning so trying to get my head around all of this, but thank you, totally overlooked "profiles" in my quest to find this functionality....

check this out - the form at the top is the original form that goes straight to a gmail account, and the second one is the drupal form.

New question - pertaining to the first, can civicrm grab contact details from incoming email?  I still like the gmail thing I've got going for its auto-responder and basically as a back up of all the subscribers contact details,  just curious if anyone's got the answer on at there fingertips so to speak.
