E-mailing a receipt

I hand entered a donation into the contact database and clicked on the "Send Receipt?" check box and then clicked save. It said the e-mail had been sent but I never received it. E-mail has been set up in Global Settings-Outbound E-mail.

Also, I'm not sure what template Civi uses if you manually type in a donation and request a receipt sent. When you use a page you get to customize the receipt.

Any help would be appreciated.

Can you double check the primary email address for the contact.

CiviCRM provides support for changing the email templates that are sent by system (System Workflow Messages) through message templates.
To check this message, you might wanna have a look at Administer →  Configure →  Message Templates and edit Contributions - Receipt (off-line) { http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/admin/messageTemplates?action=update&id=5&reset=1 }

I checked the e-mail address and hand entered the donation once again and checked send receipt but I never received the e-mail. I have already checked the outgoing e-mail settings and I did receive the test e-mail. Are their any other settings to make this work?

Outgoing SMTP settings work fine. 'New Email' under contacts and if you hand enter a donation and choose send receipt do not work. Doesn't make any sense. Any help would be appreciated.

check your smtp mail logs and see if there was an attempt made by civicrm to send an email

It looks like Civi sends the e-mail from the e-mail address tied to your account and not the e-mail address set up under Outbound Email settings. Becuase I was using an @gmail e-mail address in my account it would not send it. Once I changed to my domain e-mail address I received the receipt.
