Logged in user to create a membership for someone else
July 02, 2010, 05:30:05 am
ive been searching the forums for this today and i must be using the wrong keywords because im not finding much on it... sorry if this sounds a little dumb :(

i have a sporting club website that takes memberships and class registrations. basically its the children who do the classes and the parents are the ones who create the login and then sign their kid up for membership.

its a joomla site and i want to restrict class registrations to logged in users that have a membership. ive successfully done this and i now have a live production site but now ive run into a hurdle...

...when a logged in user wants to create a membership for their other children!

the 2 ways around this is ive discovered so far is to force the parent to create separate logins for each child which is difficult because there can only been 1 login per email address. the second is to comment out the code that in the contribution page that checks for a userID in order to autofill in the form fields so that it then creates a new contact with the membership rather than update the current contact of the logged in person.

has anyone else run in to the same problem and have you come up with a solution? mods: do you have any ideas?

This may be slightly different, but we're working on a Drupal module (sorry, no Joomla for this one) which allows parents to edit information for their kids (or another A to B relationship as defined in Drupal) including Drupal login info (username/password). This is meant to share the parent membership with the kids, however, so it may be a different case. Here's our RFP:

We are working with a developer that Lobo recommended to build this module and are hoping that when it's ready it will be accepted to the core as another Drupal module released with the core Civi package.
