Simplenews vs CiviMail
July 08, 2010, 12:27:15 pm
I'm about to set up a mailing list solution for a client.  I have quite some experience with CiviMail and hardly any with simplenews.

In terms of complexity, I'd rather not add CiviCRM to the site, although it will probably be faster for me to properly set up than Simplenews.

To those who have experience with Simplenews and CiviMail: might the client somehow be better off with SimpleNews?

to a large extent it depends on the size of your list. if a small list ( < 500/1000?), then simplenews is definitely a good alternative. if larger than that, might want to check how it scales, handles bounces, replies etc. Also check how it does url tracking and reporting

please report back if u do investigate and figure out pros and cons

The current list is <500 subscribers but I'm expecting that the new website will lead to more people signing up so I'm aiming straight for CiviMail.

Although I haven't used Simplenews, as far as I know that is the module that is used in drupal.org, which has thousands of subscribers, so I guess it will handle large lists with no problems.

Ok, thanks a lot.
I'm having too many troubles adding CiviCRM to this specific installation so I'll give simplenews a try.

Meanwhile I found out I had wrong info and the actual list has around 14k subscribers.
