Event when listed shows "Registrations close on" but registration is not require

I have set up some events where registration is not required. When a user select list of events, the event summary shows the wording "Registrations close on" (with no date or time) just to the right of the event's date and time. As there is no registration required for the event I would sooner these words were not displayed. Is there a way to 'turn them off'?
