Various issues - does anyone else see these
July 09, 2010, 02:13:35 pm
There are a few possible bugs - these are all in a Joomla installation and many of them may relate to Joomla-specific issues (I'm testing on the default template, more or less). I don't think that there is a sandbox I can test Joomla issues in 3.2b3 on to verify that its not just my (odd) system, so I'd be interested to know if anyone else sees them/they're known and I didn't see them on the tracker.

1. When creating a new Joomla menu item for an event, the dropdown doesn't list newly created events (but does list some old v3.0 ones). It also lists two blanks, which appear to be templates.

2. The quick search is alternately grey (readable) and white (unreadable until you hover over it). It also seems (sometimes) to search as you're typing (correctly) but then as you reach for your mouse to click on one of the contacts skip back to a full list as if you hadn't entered any data.

3. CiviMember: when renewing a membership, the "Send Confirmation Receipt" bit appears to have fallen off the green background (or doesn't have the right container?) and is just left aligned (under the menu) on the white background and the save etc buttons below it are also misaligned.

4. (Front end only) The date picker (for e.g. Date of Birth fields) doesn't work in profiles used in the frontend. In the backend it works fine.

5. If a profile's settings state that signing up for a Joomla account is optional/compulsory it doesn't appear to have any effect. Nothing is displayed (but I couldn't get this to work in 3.1 either, so may not be a 3.2beta issue, specifically?)

6. (v. minor layout bug?) Configure>>Global Settings>>Site Preferences : the top and bottom sets of save/cancel buttons are together at the top with the page below it.

Ed,

1) Can you apply this patch and see if it fixes things?
http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-4404

2) I have a patch to the stylesheet that will fix this in the next release.

3) I see this as well and will look at fixing in the next stylesheet.

5) make sure you have enabled frontend registration in your joomla global settings, and your profile must include the primary email field

6) will look at that as well

It appears to just mess up the page (Joomla template vanishes and text is a mess on a white background and URL reads "http://www.<domain>.org.uk/administrator/index.php?option=com_menus&task=edit&type=component&url[option]=com_civicrm&url[view]=Events&url[layout]=register&menutype=clubandgeneral") - but maybe I've just put it in the wrong place: I've created the /elements folder under /components/com_civicrm and the xml replaces two files of the same name in the views/Events/tmpl folder? The drop down box for listing events can't be seen so I don't know if it works on the underlying issue.

I'll look at this again tomorrow with a clearer head.

OK, I understand where my confusion came from - mainly user error (naturally...) but just re-reading the guidance I don't think its that clear.
So if the Joomla link is a CiviCRM Profile Create link it works, but if its a CiviCRM Profile Edit link (a choice which, in all other respects work identically for non-logged in users, I think) it doesn't. That's fine for the form I was using it for (a general enquiry one) but does anyone know if that behaviour still applies where the user has been sent to the profile edit using a token? The use case I have in mind are the (many) club members who do not have a website account. I'd like to mail them and tell them to review their data, register with the website and thereafter view their data when logged in.

EDIT: Also it appears that just converting the Joomla menu item to a Create item doesn't cause that section of the profile to become visible: the Joomla menu item has to be initially set up as a Create Profile.

I have modified files in the past to allow profile edit forms to have the user reg fields available because of a similar scenario -- i wanted to send existing contacts an email with token to create a login account. If you need that, let me know and I'll track down the code.

Re: the menu item --
I've seen this crop up several times lately. Civi stores the menu item options in the menu parameters field, which is standard. But when changing from one menu item type to another, some of the old parameter options are retained and can goof things up. Not sure if that's civi's fault, or Joomla's (for not clearing parameters when a menu item type is changed). At some point I'll try to take a look at it.
