I have added an activity to a few people's records. But when I do advanced search to find people with those activities added, the only record that matches is mine (presumably because I am one who ADDED the activity records). 

I need to search for people who have done this activity (i.e. in civiCRM speak: people it's "with").

Is the behaviour I've found correct or is it a bug in the beta?

hmmm, just tried that, it gives unhelpful results: lists three activities with my name as "Name" and also my name in the "Scheduled By" column (instead of listing who did the activity). To me, the most important thing about an activity is the subject of it: who did it. Who added/scheduled it is just meta data. (I am new to civicrm so forgive me if I just don't get something, but I have read and re-read the manual and I am testing thouroughly against two versions!)

I've since submitted a bug http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-6482 because the behaviour in 3.1 is to properly search the With field. I have found that I can trick civicrm into giving me what I want by making it search for activity/contact-name for % (wildcard).
