Create Matching CiviCRM Field
October 29, 2007, 01:55:56 pm
Hi - I am new (really really new) to this all, and I am importing my .csv excel document into the contacts.  Everything is good, but I am trying to create a Matching CiviCRM Field ("Company").  How in the heck do I do that?  It has the other fields that I need, just not that one.  I must be glancing over something.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Matt

You'll need to learn a little about relationships.

So you are going to create two contacts...   Individual A and Company B. Then connect them with a relationship (in this case employee of).

Your CSV contains data on the individuals. You map each field and when you get to the employer name, you go down and pick the "employee of" relationship (if it is not there, you'll need to create and employee-employer relationship). Another drop down will automagically appear with a list of all the fields for the company contact type. Select name.

Hope that is enough to get you started.

That does help, however I am trying to set up a mailing list.  Sorry, I wasn't clear in what I typed.  When I import contacts for a mailing list, it asks me to match up the fields in my data to the set data that it provides.  I'm trying to change this field:

I'm sure I am seeing it, but skipping the option for some reason...

Thanks again.

I'm afraid I don't understand. You have circled a column label.

The drop down menus there are populated by the fields in your contact records. If you create a custom filed, it will show up in the drop down menus.
