Installing CiviCRM 3.1.5 on Drupal 6.17 just stalls with no error message
July 15, 2010, 11:07:03 am
I am attempting to install civicrm 3.1.5 on Drupal 6.17. I have input all my database information and got all "GREEN" to go ahead with the install but then the next page is just stuck at this message for hours.... no error message or anything, just this:

Installing CiviCRM...

I am now running through the installation steps (this should take a few minutes)

If you receive a fatal error, refresh this page to continue the installation

Building database schema and setup files...

I have logged into Drupal and I don't see Civicrm there. What can I do the debug this further or understand what went wrong? Log files???

That is not the final message for a successful install. Yes, check the error logs.

Also confirm that your MySQL has InnoDB support as CiviCRM requires that.

Where are the error logs?

I am using SQL 5.0 from GoDaddy -- Not sure they support INNODB but I would think so? I will try to find out.

I do not know where GoDaddy keeps error logs but I can share that GoDaddy is known to be a poor quality host. Google for GoDaddy and Drupal or GoDaddy and CiviCRM and you will see pages of reports of problems...

I understand... but for now I'd like to see the error log from the CiviCRM installer -- where is that located? or is there a such thing? All I see is "Building database schema and setup files..."  and nothing else below it. Where else can I look?

I am not aware of an error log for CiviCRM. But your server has an error log. You must ask your host about that however.

I can confirm that it support INNODB....

I've tried the install a number of times -- I even check the webserver error logs and I do not see any error messages regarding the database or civiCRM at all.

It just stalls at "building database schema and setup files..."

If I attempt to login Drupal Admin, I can see CiviCRM 3.1 module listed and when I enable the module, it returns bunch of error including saying that the civicrm_setting.php file has not been created....

BTW I have had successful install with CiviCRM 2.x in the past on the very same web hosting I am using now.....

It’s a bit hard to guess what went wrong without having the (PHP’s/webserver’s) error message.

You can also try installing CiviCRM 2.2 and upgrading it to 3.2.
If you found the above helpful, please consider helping us in return – you can even steer CiviCRM’s future and help us extend CiviCRM in ways useful to you.

Thanks!! That did work.

So, if anyone runs into the same problem. Just know that Installing a clean CiviCRM 2.2 and then upgrading it to 3.2 worked without any problems as opposed to a clean 3.2 install.
