Using Profiles to make a "Contact Us" Form
July 19, 2010, 01:18:48 pm
I've used Profiles to make a Contact Form for a site.  I've tried two approaches, using an "edit" profile and a "create" profile.

https://www.irest.us/civicrm/profile/edit?reset=1&gid=12
https://www.irest.us/civicrm/profile/create?reset=1&gid=12

My hope is that (with appropriate spam protection) this form could capture data from contacts who were new to the Civi data and existing already in the Civi data.  The latter appears to be problematic.  When viewing the form as an anonymous user, and entering in an email that already exists, an error is given.  Try my testing email address: howdoilogon (at) gmail dot com

This profile is set to email someone when the profile is submitted, and will therefore serve as a contact form.  I realize that if the anonymous user changes their name or address, that this data will be overwritten.  I also realize that only the most recent "subject" and "message" will be stored in civicrm, and subsequent submissions will overwrite this custom data.  This is ok with us.

Is there anyway to have a profile update existing information in the database, am I missing something simple?

Stoob - what are you setting for 'update on duplicate match' or whatever it is called in the Advanced Settings of the Profile? Is that a bit you overlooked?
