batch update w/ subtypes
July 19, 2010, 01:19:49 pm
one of our groups tried to create a profile that collected info from an individual subtype. the profile had first and last name, a custom field only available to the individual subtype and email address.

when batch update via profile is chosen, the profile is not available as an option.

is this the way it is supposed to work? i thought the limitation was that the fields needed to be of the same type. is batch update not available to subtypes?

i tried this on the drupal demo site and it works the same way. i tried this with just the subtype field and the profile was not available either for batch updating. when i tried it with only individual type fields it worked as expected.

is this a bug?

thanks,

ok, no response so more testing.

i created 2 records of subtype student in the drupal demo site. when i searched for these two records and did a batch update i was able to use the profile that had both individual and student fields.

i then search for records that are of the type individual. when i chose a couple and try the batch update, the profile with student does not appear. and then it started to make sense. i had an AHA moment.

i cannot use a profile that refers to fields that are not available to all the records. if all of my records are not of the same subtype then i cannot use the profile that refers to fields of that subtype.

okay, i checked the original example and it is so: not all the records in the group were of the same subtype. i created a profile that allowed them to batch update the subtype and then they could use the original profile.
