Single Edit via Profile
July 26, 2010, 12:34:35 pm
Here's a task that I can't achieve.

  • There's an option for "User-create mode" under additional Profile options.
  • There's a Batch Update via Profile (which magically ignored have of my non-custom fields in our profiles).
Is there an option to EDIT (update) a SINGLE USER via Profile? The option of eMailing a URL with a 7-day token is rather inconvenient.

The following URL does the trick for me but can I add a button to auto-generate such links for an Admin User?

index2.php?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/profile/edit&eset=1&id=986&gid=16

(my clients wouldn't absorb the concept of looking up a User ID and crafting out a URL)

You can create an entire search and edit interface with that profile for your admin users ... Make one or more of the fields in the profile "Searchable" and "In Selector" (puts them as column in search results). From Profile Settings -> Advanced Settings check the box for:

"Include profile edit links in search results?"

Then add a link to this profile in "search" mode (civicrm/profile&gid=16&reset=1) your CiviCRM navigation menu. Admin's can find and edit from there.

CAVEAT: I'm not sure if setting this up in Joomla risks exposing it to unauthorized front-end users. I don't think the "Edit" link will appear to them and I don't think they can "use it" - but you should test it.
