Renewals for Inherited Memberships
July 26, 2010, 07:48:17 pm
If an individual joins 'on behalf of an organisation' it seems pretty likely that if the person returns to that Contribution page it will be because they want to renew that membership.

At present the workflow is that 'create new organisation' is set as default, so we have to hope people read the instructions (never a good idea ;-) ) and select the 'select existing organisation' button, then type anything, even a 'space' in to the autofill to bring up the list of (most usually) one name.

So I am wondering if we can work towards have core set so that 'use existing organisation' is set as default for people who are 'renewing' and, if a person only has a single organisation, that this be entered automatically in the autofill.

Are there scenarios where an alternative outcome are likely and which would therefore conflict with the above?

A contact can have multiple organization relationships, so how will you determine which organization to populate? IMO it is bit complex which organization to populate etc and even if there is single organization relationship you cannot determine for sure if that organization should be set default.

And the first suggestion, if you are at the RENEW page the default is 'select existing' rather than 'create new'?

Yes, this might be useful.
