Payment processors/Confirmation emails
July 27, 2010, 08:21:25 am
Hi there. I'm in the proess of setting a site up for a program I teach here in Toronto and have two questions:

Payment processing - We are unable to tap into the University's payment processing system and they will not permit us to use 3rd party payment processors like paypal, etc. Is there some way to have the client input their credit card information so that it's transmitted as part of the application process securely. Will the dummy payment processor do this? I checked the docs and forums and can't find anything. It's not the greatest solution, but unfortunately it's all we've got.

Confirmation emails for events - Do these go out when an application is submitted and pending, or only when payment is confirmed. I'm hoping it's the latter. Couldn't find anything in the docs for this.

Thanks
Chris Hutcheson

No the dummy processor doesn't do this - and there's no out of the box way to do it. In any case you probably don't want credit card numbers stored in your CiviCRM DB. You can use the "pay later" option with NO payment processor selected and thus users will be asked to make payment offline - using the instructions you configure for "Pay Later" (e.g. call this phone # and submit your credit card, or fax it to ... or ...).

Sounds like you're using the "Approval Required" mode for event registration? If so, users will get an initial email saying their registration has been received and is awaiting approval. Then a second email after you approve them inviting them to complete their registration. Finally a confirmation (which in your case would be something like - "... your registration is confirmed. Pls send payment / call w/ credit card etc. "

Best if you "try this out" yourself to see the behaviors. The text in the various emails are editable  from Administer > Configure > Message Templates > System Message Templates.
