Hi All!

I have just started spending some time with Civi as we are slowly trying to integrate it into a community farm project. So to replace the old and terrible access db's in various areas of the organisation.

I am currently for booking education streams for various things that go on at the farm a school will call and make a booking. The volunteers will create an event and assign the school as a participant once confirmed.

I am trying to customise the event creation and participant registering system so that they are one.

So is a nut shell I'm trying to create a view for the volunteers to be able to create an event and add a participant(or create a new one if they do not exist) in the same view.

I have tried to shoe horn the event creation dialog into the participant register view using templates but had little luck(mind you I am still learning)

Basically I'm here trying to see what might be the best approach to doing this. Are templates the way forward, is using the civi api a better way in a custom page or can I achieve this with custom fields..?

Yes it is similar. But we need to do a lot of reporting on the various comings and goings of different groups, which I do see is possible for activities

Also the money tracking may be important to them but I have not spoken with the team leader as to whether they want it.

Last of all we have to have an expression of interest form, that will allow an interested party to make inquiry about a visit.

any specific reason you think "booking a visit to the farm" an event?

One thing I liked was the mailing system for all participants.

I will investigate activities and discuss it with the others and see how it goes.
