CiviCRM and VirtuMart?
August 06, 2010, 07:25:01 am
Hello,

We are seriously considering using this solution for our International Car Club Organization.  We are very please with the flexibility, but have some questions.

Has anyone used CiviCRM and VirtuMart on the same web site built on Joomla CMS?  We need some sort of store solution, but see that CiviCRM doesn't (currently) offer one natively.

Thank you for your help,

Curtis

There is a mention about such solution in this thread: http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,8854.0.html

Thx,

Hello,

Thank you for your reply.  I reading that thread, it would seem it mentions someone already using Joomla and VirtueMart and looking into adding CiviCRM, but not getting an answer as to whether it will work.

I briefly tooking at CiviCRM and VM, it would appear that no direct integration is being done.  In order to make the user's experience tolorable, we would have to use CiviCRM as the master data and sync the address and other user information over to VM.

Has anyone gone down this road yet?  Maybe a better question would be:  Does CiviCRM have plans to add it's own store extension?  Seems that, with the membership processor in place, it would be relatively easy to add a simple Store to CiviCRM that shares the Membership processors.

Thanks,

Curtis

there are no plans to build a store extension for the short/medium or long term. For drupal installs we recommend using Ubercart and help strengthen the integration between ubercart and civicrm. the joomla community might want to group together and help find a solution that works and can potentially integrate nicely with civicrm

But you can ask people who posted about it about their experience. :-)

In examining both VM and CiviCRM, we have opted to modify VM to use CiviCRM tables directly.  This means items like shipping address and billing information are stored in one table for both applications.  The plus for us is that both VM and CiviCRM still use the Joomla user accounts.

We still have a ton of work left to do to make sure CiviCRM can handle our requirements, so the VM integration has been put on the back burner.

If anyone knows of a quick and relyable way to update memberships for people that renew through the mail (100-200 a month), it would help us greatly!

Thank you,

Curtis
