Standalone remains active?

I noted a discussion about closing down the Standalone version of CiviCRM - where are you on that? I personally think it would be a shame, but I do understand the desire to focus the efforts and take advantage of the offerings of other frameworks.
If Standalone is getting shut down, I will have to move it, probably to a Drupal install. Is there a migration system or howto?
Finally, is there an update system for CiviCRM? I guess all that Wordpress work has me spoiled.

I would suggest following steps for migration.
1. Backup your current standalone CiviCRM db.
2. Looks like you are on 3.1.x, so first install Drupal and do fresh install of CiviCRM ( same as your current version). Make sure CiviCRM works and logout from drupal.
3. Empty civicrm_uf_match, civicrm_cache, civicrm_menu table of your standalone CiviCRM db.
4. Update civicrm_domain.config_backend to null
5. In your drupal - civicrm: change civicrm dns settings in civicrm.settings.php to point civicrm standalone db.
6. Now login to drupal and go to http://sitename/civicrm/menu/rebuild?reset=1

Let us know if this works for you.
