CiviMail - what happens re multisite Crons
August 10, 2010, 03:12:10 am
After discussing with Deepak on IRC I documented the multisite CRON civimail behaviour here

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC32/CiviMail+in+a+multisite

But the behaviour of the Cron when run against an L1 site didn't appear to be as discussed - basically the cron if run against an L1 site seems to pick up any civiMail in the system whoever & whereever it was scheduled & send it.

I thought I'd bring it over here for further checking & discussion. I do note that the initiator of the CiviMail did have 'access all contacts' -ie can view users throughout the DB but my understanding of the conversation was that it would be the initiators groups memberships combined with the group memberships of the cronjob-user that would determine whether the L1 site sent the cron (not the two users's permissions - although they are more important in the case of an L2 site cron)

Note that the sponsor for multisite (GMVCO) has switched to using multiple single sites. as such the resources that we can develop to enhance and bug-fix multi-site is limited/non-existent

Yes, I am aware the sponsor has pulled out. I've been thinking about that a lot lately because we have another customer who is interested in Civi-Engage and I realise that it could go the same way. Sometimes it just all feels very hard

I think it does help to let the client know that projects like CiviEngage / Multi-Site are in alpha stage and would need a fair amount of resources / $$$ / developer hours to deploy and get it working on "another" client site

it is hard and the path is rocky :) but i do think we are making forward progress with some of those pieces and are close to getting a good model working. We just need a few more clients willing to make the investment, which will happen in the near future
