Drupal - IE8 javascript error - Member not found
August 10, 2010, 07:05:51 am
All my civicrm pages have a javascript error:  Member not found.  Installation info is to the left with my profile.  I attached images of the error dialog box and IE Developer Tools window.  It works in IE7 and Mozilla.  It's broken in IE8.

Boost and Javascript optimization is disabled.  I was getting some earlier errors about Dojo not being able to load ./nls/commonWidgets_en-us.js but they have gone away.

Any thoughts on the issue?  Thanks

Hershel

There is an issue with older versions of dojo and IE8: http://o.dojotoolkit.org/forum/dojo-core-dojo-0-9/dojo-core-support/member-not-found-javascript-error-ie-8 but this was fixed some time ago in CiviCRM.

What version of CiviCRM do you have?

Hmmm...this is an older site that runs CiviCRM 2.2.2.  How safe do you think it would be to just drop in a newer version of dojo.js?

you definitely want to upgrade to a more recent version. the 2.x series is no longer supported (we only support the latest version)

the 3.x series is at least 10-100x better than the 2.x series (usability, documentation, scalability etc) and is worth the upgrade, IMHO

I hear what you're saying lobo.  But unfortunately, upgrading the CiviCRM component of the site is not an option at this point.  I'm more looking for a bandage that will help us limp along until we reach a point where the whole site is upgraded (possibly within 2-4 months).

You can apply the patch I provided here:

http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-4703

Just add the line to your theme and it should fix it.

Thanks Hershel, forcing IE7 compatibility mode worked.  I was starting to head down that direction when you posted.  This is the bandage I was looking for.  Weird that the ticket you referenced never showed up in any of my google searches.

Yes, I also noticed that about Google. Not sure why either. I searched on the issue tracker here in CiviCRM to find the issue. :)
