2.2 Export function does not work

I'm new to this forum, but am trying to get some help with an export issue in civi version 2.2.2

The Problem:  Exporting a subset of records after a search leads to ALL records being exported -- in spite of the fact that I choose the check box for the subset.

This used to work in a previous version of civi and it does work in the current demo. 

Is there a way to fix this in 2.2.2 without having to upgrade?

at the very least i would upgrade to the latest 2.2 (i.e. 2.2.9) and see if the problem still exists there

we only support the current version (v3.2.1), so an upgrade is definitely worth it
