I've recently inherited a client who's CiviCRM history is a bit spotty, so I can't vouch for the integrity of their database, though the code is all clean now.

The odd behaviour is that a recently created group (simple, not smart, about 600 constituents) was sent a civimail, and in the civimail report it shows that it tried to send out to each recipient twice, but fortunately mostly failed on the duplicate attempt. I.e. it shows about 1200 attempted sends, with 600 fails, and when i look at the details of the emails/times sent, it looks like as I've described.

The odd behaviour did not happen on a different group created in a similar way (which was slightly bigger).

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Clues for debugging?

They're using CiviSMTP, though I'm not sure how that would have an effect.
