Maintaining Joomla User Sync
November 07, 2007, 06:00:05 am
I understand from asking a question previously that changes to the email address in the user records in Joomla do not automatically migrate to CiviCRM.  What about the other direction?  If not, is there a way to maintain the sync between Joomla users and contacts?

Hi Shawn,
Yes, you're correct that the Joomla email and CiviCRM email are retained separately, and thus are not synched. However, this does not affect the actual "connection" between the Joomla user and CiviCRM contact (if I understand the second half of your question correctly). The email addresses are only used for the initial "connection" between the two records. Once that connection is established, it is preserved within civicrm_uf_match table -- regardless of whether one or the other email address is changed.

Of course that doesn't fix the problem of having the Joomla user email and CiviCRM email out of sync...
Can't help on that one, but if you find a fix, let me know!

Thanks!

I haven't written code for about 20 years, but I'm teaching myself php now, mostly out of enthusiasm for CiviCRM and Joomla!

There must be a way to write the contact edit code in the Joomla version of CiviCRM to update the Joomla email records if the CiviCRM email field is changed.
