Author Topic: After upgrade from 2.2 to 3.2 - relationships not appearing on contact dashboard (Read 2444 times)

Hi all,

I upgraded my civi from 2.2 to 3.2.0 - and all appears well on the backend.

Can anyone give me a hint why, on the contact dashboard for a user, I am seeing "There are no related contacts / organizations on record for you." under "Your Contacts / Organizations"?

When viewing the same contact record and clicking on the "relationships" tab I see the active relationships that exist in the DB and all appears to be well.

When I add a new relationship from the contact record, it then appears on the contact dashboard.

This happens even when logged in as admin.

I think if logged in user has permission to edit the related contacts then only it is displayed in Contact Dashboard.

Thanks Kurund - maybe you misunderstand me.. when I am logged in as admin (user 1) and go to the contact dashboard for a user with relationships created on old site, there are no related contacts displayed. When I create a new relationship on the new site, it then appears on the contact dashboard for the contact.

I just tried giving the user admin access and looking at the dashboard logged in as that user - and the old relationships are not displayed, only the new one.

Weird.

Make be some problem with your existing relationship data, you will have to check the db.

Has anyone found a fix for this? I was on 3.1 and now have this same problem.

I have seen this but I'm pretty sure I found that one or the other of the contacts had been soft-deleted when I checked,. I'm not 100% sure because I think I fixed it by just re-running the migration (since it's a dev site)

Do you mean re-run the upgrade script? Is that possible for a site that has already been in production use? We did not notice the problem after deploying an upgraded version of the site. I tried to use the db tools but I do not think they are upgraded for 3.2.1

No, I mean the migration - I'm using migrate module to import contacts & relationships so I trashed the relationships & re-imported them.

But do double check the contacts at both ends of the relationship are 'OK'

I found the problem after some errors finally showed up in my drupal sites log. The /sites/default/files/civicrm folder did not have the correct permissions set on it. So the system was unable to write to the templates_c folder.

Thanks for the replies Eileen and rightsprocket - I am not clear on how your input affects me. Eileen, did you see the same problem that I described at the top of this thread?

The db tools only work on the 2.2 version of my database. I got stuck when I ran them and it found many problems - and when I fixed them the upgrade then failed. I obviously need to revisit this and make sure I get any problems with the database fixed, but have not yet been able to identify which of the fixes is breaking my database.

So far it appears that the relationships not appearing on the contact dashboard is the only problem I am having in 3.2 after the upgrade. Is there another way to check and fix the database in 3.2?

Kurund, could you show me specifically what to look to check for problems with relationships?

Hi, I would check

1) your logs
2) what contacts are at each end of the relationship and then look at each contact for anything odd

as a first step

So just to be sure you are having the same issue. It is when you go to edit a contact and click on the relationships tab nothing shows up to edit the relationship? If so I had permissions set wrong on my server. Civicrm needed to write out a template file, presumably to cache it, in the /sites/default/files/civicrm/templates_c folder. I am using a drupal install so the particular folder may be different on Joomla.

Hi Marc - thanks for the reply. Actually, no - my situation is different.

When I look at a contact and click on the relationships tab the relationship is there. It's just on the contact dashboard (on the frontend) that it does not appear. When I create a new relationship on the backend it then does appear on the dashboard.

Completely bizarre and strange situation. My only guess right now is that something is going wrong in the upgrade, or my 2.2 database has some problems, maybe related to the way the custom frontend code we have creates users and orgs at the same time, that is causing the upgrade to not capture the relationships. I will block out some time to look at this in more detail later this week.

So, whether or not relationships appear on the contact dashboard is affected by the permissions associated with the relationship - try comparing them
