Membership Status when importing Memberships
August 22, 2010, 12:37:18 pm
Hi all,

This is just a note as I just struggled with something for a good hour or more and as its quite a simple thing I presume I may not be the only one that missed it!

When importing members, its absolutely vital that the Membership Status that you have in your csv is using the "name" field, and not the "label" field. How was this easy to misunderstand? Well, I had changed the provided status of "Current" label to "Approved", however this doesn't show in the Membership Status list as still having the "name" of "Current".

Just to clarify, make sure you're using the "name" field and not the "label" field for Membership status imports!

Thanks,

Adam

Actually, on this note - a strange inconsistency... When I've imported memberships as "Current" which in my system has the label of "Approved" the membership dashboard shows the memberships as "Current" - if the label has changed, surely it should be the label which is used throughout the system (at least visibly) rather than the name? This could lead to major confusion for users!

I think I'll delete all the internal statuses (although I see pending and deceased are not possible to delete/change - is there a reason for that?) and make my own for consistency.

Thanks! Adam

What about when the Membership status field has a space in it - "Not renewing" in my case?

The statuses don't seem to update when I try to import them, wondering if it is because of this?

Los.
