Restricted Civi use with access to 1 e-mail list?
August 26, 2010, 09:07:17 am
Is there a way I can create e-mail lists/groups in Civi and give access to non-admin users to only 1 particular e-mail list?  That is, I don't want the non-admin folks to use any function in Civi except to access just one particular e-mail list - so their access would be very restricted.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I would want them to be able to send e-mail to the addresses contained in the list.  Almost like setting up a listserve, but I want to do it Civi because it can automatically sort which e-mail addresses should go in each list.  For example, my organization has a program where we conduct advocacy on a ward level.  Our Civi is set up to assign a ward number to each address entered in the database.  Each ward has a volunteer ward captain - I want the ward captain to be able to e-mail our contacts who reside in the ward the captain volunteers for.  So my thought is to set up different e-mail lists for each ward and for the ward captains to have access to this list to communicate with people living in specific wards.  Is this possible to do in Civi or would I need to set up listserves separate from Civi?

CiviMail is not a listserv, its more a broadcast email tool. if u need listservs, u'll need to use mailman/sympa etc which are more appropriate (IMO)

if you are up for a real challenge - OG for each Ward - and use Broadcast and Notifications to get the messages out

and look at reversing the civicrm OG synch so the synching goes from civicrm to OG not vv

and to take it up another step - weave together MailComment, MailHandler and allow recipients to reply by email - but I only suggest this to serve out the same punishment that we have put ourselves through  ;D

or hold your breath and wait on http://drupal.org/project/og_mailinglist  - oh but wait - the module is up as alpha!
