Setting Location Types from a Form or Profile?
August 29, 2010, 08:14:07 pm
Is there any way to expose the location type, e.g., Home, Work, Billing, Main, etc. in a custom profile?  I have a membership association that consists of members with home and work addresses as their primary address.  I can get them to tell me which address type or location type the address is at the time of registration but I can't get them access to the location types via the profile form.

Is there a workaround for this in the meantime and if not, is this being considered for a future release?  This is just good database housekeeping and having everyone default to one type or the other is not the best solution.  For Hands On, I had to create another custom data field to capture this info but I have no way of really updating the location type to this type unless it's via SQL but this is not a solution.  Am hoping there is some setting I've missed that let's me do this.

Thanks,
Annalee

u can have specific fields for street_address home, city home etc and the same for work?

r u talking of a feature where its: street_address, city, state etc and location type is also a parameter?

if so that is currently not on our road map. if u'd like to see this happen, you'll need to write code for it and/or sponsor it. I suspect it approx 20-50 hour of work, depending on how we spec it

Hmmm....yup the latter is what I'm looking for.  Would also like to do the same with email and phone.  In this case, we're trying to simplify the option of taking one primary set of contact info but we need to know if it's home or work for the member directory so we know if we should print their job title and company name with it.  Can't afford to sponsor this right now but this is definitely something I'd like to see it at some point from a core "name and address handling" perspective.  Thanks, Lobo!

Lobo -

Would be happy to contribute a spec for some of these things if you have a developer who is interested in doing this sooner rather than later.  Also, I am cultivating someone to do the coding work which is beyond me.  Just thought I would offer what I could.

will not help a lot currently since we have a lot of specs on the wiki waiting on development resources
