Error when running install of 3.2.2
August 30, 2010, 08:18:03 am
I am trying to install CiviCRM and am getting an error. I had removed an earlier version that I never had a chance to start working with. I forgot that I had done this and tried to install V3.2.2. After the install, it asked me to run the upgrade script. i clicked the link and received the following error:

Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'Exception' with message 'XML data could not be loaded. Make sure you specified the correct path.'
in /home2/user/public_html/administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm/packages/IDS/Filter/Storage.php:220 Stack trace: #0 /home2/user/public_html/administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm/packages/IDS/Filter/Storage.php(111): IDS_Filter_Storage->getFilterFromXML()

the locations listed in the trace are valid. I unistalled and reinstalled with the same results. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. MySQL 5.1.47 PHP 5.2.13 Joomla 1.5.20

I suspect what happened is that between your initial install, and this uninstall/upgrade install, you either moved your site to a new host or new folder. so what's happening is that the old location settings are still in the db, and now the new upgrade is coughing because it doesn't see accurate folder locations.

I would first try getting into the db (using phpMyAdmin or something) and go to civicrm_domain. there will be one record in that table. set backend_settings to null and save the record. try opening civicrm.

if that doesn't work, I'd uninstall CiviCRM, delete all the civi tables from the db, and install a clean copy. since you don't have any data, that will give you a clean install.

Dead on that the site has been moved. I'll make the adjustments to the database and post the results. Thank you for your quick response.

i went through both suggestions and I am still getting the same error. If I set the config_backend to NULL now, I get a different error. What information do you need to help with next steps?

Delete en_us and verify that templates_c is empty -> launch Components/CiviCRM -> en_us and three subdirectories are created. I receive the same error as above.

there's a cache issue or setting issue somewhere. but honestly, if this is an empty install, I would just uninstall via joomla, delete all your tables, and reinstall. it's probably easier than debugging. unless you have data you want to preserve, in which case, you should keep debugging. if you want to PM me access details I'll take a quick look.

I thought we had already done that, but let me be sure and go through. If I understand:

1) uninstall CiviCRM from the Joomla Admin

2) Use PHPMyAdmin to drop all civicrm_* tables

3) Reinstall CiviCRM using the new install instructions.

Are there any other steps I need to complete? Files that may be left behind from the uninstall?

Thank you

obviously i won't know all the steps you've taken, but based on your initial post, you were definitely processing an upgrade, which indicates the db tables were still present.

so yes, your three steps above are correct.

That finally did it. After going through the steps, I had uninstalled and deleted all the tables before without success. This time I also deleted the media/civicrm folder, the only one I could find left behind by the uninstall, in addition to the previous steps. Once I reinstalled, I can now get to the backend. I'll start looking around at the application. Primarily want it for volunteer management for a school PTA.
Thank you again for all your assistance.
