Using Card Scan Software to import contacts right from business cards

Is there a Card Scanning software that will integrate with CiviCRM, essentially importing a business card into CiviCRM?

currently no, but would be great if you can contribute code/sponsorship to make this happen. i suspect there are a few open source packages out there that covert the card scan output to a "csv" like format. this can then feed into civicrm quite nicely via the API

Hi,

Alternatively, might be easier to get a vcard format (fairly standard).

There isn't yet on civicrm a tool to import a contact from a vcard, but something that would be nice.

Otherwise, did try a few scanner, and the result of the OCR wasn't good enough to save time over retyping, but might be better now than a couple of years ago.

Similar experience as Mr X. The client gave us some spreadsheets and then dropped 500+ business cards in our letterbox!! We tried various methods but didn't purchase a dedicated card scanner. Using our existing scanner and OCR it proved easiest to scan to a .doc type document then basically drag elements in to a csv with auxiliary typing for all those bits the OCR couldn't pick up.

any progress on this front?
It looks like there are some apps that work with Salesforce.  Anything out there work with CiviCRM?

not heard of any as yet

but i suspect integration with a hardware card scanner with a decent API should not be too hard
