I'm working with an organization right now to show them CiviCRM can meet their needs. They had one question that I wasn't certain about.

They do fixed memberships by the year. If someone joins partway into the year, they can choose whether their membership is for this year (and therefore only for part of a year) or next year. The rest of this year part is easy - you just set it to 1 year fixed and that's done. But how would you give the option to allow them to choose next year instead of this year?
