Drupal Backup and Restore does not restore CiviCRM's templates_c folder
September 01, 2010, 07:22:09 am
I recently had to restore my Drupal+CiviCRM installation, using the Drupal Backup and Migrate module. The Drupal pages came back just fine, but the pure CiviCRM pages were WSOD. A lengthy error message in a Drupal page that called information from CiviCRM (events) said that there was a Smarty error. Smarty could not find the templates_c directory in CiviCRM. Sure enough, it didn't restore. I was able to get CiviCRM running by changing the name of the civicrm.settings.php file and treating it like a new install, giving it the MySQL db name, username, and password that I used before. This restored CiviCRM to functionality, but I lost all my data, including Drupal user data. I reloaded most of the data and got CiviCRM working (without the user data - not many of them, and some were spammers from before I activated protections). Now I have to do another restore and I would like to save the data that I entered since the first one. Is there a way to recreate the templates_c directories that will not wipe all my data? Thanks for any advice.

templates_c are compiled templates, you don't need to backup them, just crate that directory and make sure apache can write in it, civicrm will repopulate it with whatever needed.

Thanks, will do.
I learn more every day, mostly that I don't know squat.
