Mailing label household/merge problems

Never mind!

I discovered that many of my problems could be solved by changing the Global Settings>Address Settings to {Addressee} instead of {contact.first_name} and {contact.last_name}.

So, if you have also experienced bugginess on the mailing labels merging, try changing that...

hey renee:

i took a quick look at the code to see what we are doing, here are some quick thoughts:

1. the merge with same household, expects the contacts and household all to be part of the merge set. I suspect the person who contributed that part of the codebase had this as an underlying assumption

2. the "Merge labels for contacts with the same address" should have had Astrid & Warner Anderson. seems like a bug

3. the household merge also seems like a bug, the household name should be present

Can you please file an issue for this. We'll try to fix in a future release.

Thanks for the reply, I was retyping my post while you wrote.  I think the main problem left in the demo is that since my import didn't contain Addressee data, there are no names at all when making mailing labels without selecting "Merge labels for contacts with the same address".  There are no names when I just check "Merge labels for contacts belonging to the same household" or don't check either.

So maybe the default could be changed so that when you import contacts Civi automatically puts in the Addressee field the {contact.individual_prefix} {contact.first_name}... etc?
