Screen after duplicate merge
September 06, 2010, 06:04:20 pm
On our 3.2 installation, after a duplicate merge I am taken back to the main Administration menu page. The message The contacts have been merged. is at the top of the screen.

On our site the URL showing in the browser when it goes to the Admin screen is http://mysite.com/civicrm/admin/dedupefind?reset=1&action=update&rgid=7&gid=

On the demo site, I was taken to the remaining contact's record after a duplicate merge.

In both cases I would expect the behaviour of 3.1, which is to see the report of duplicates for that rule re-run on the group chosen.

Has this intentionally changed? What is it supposed to do? It's going to be a long process to merge duplicates if you continually have to re-choose everything, and not desirable to use the Back button.

the dedupe rules can take a LONG time and hence we now redirect to a different place (u can always change this with a postProcess hook)

we recommend you use browser tabs to do merges (i.e. dedupe rule in one tab, all merges in other tabs)

if dedupe is important to you, consider supporting the "make it happen" initiative: http://civicrm.org/blogs/eileen/civi-make-it-happen

Thanks for the reply.

Do you have any idea why it's different between our new install and the demo site?

ok. I don't see anything in the Make It Happen list that will solve this issue though.

yes, your specific issue is not part of the make it happen list

however improving dedupe performace and introducing caching will allow us to come back and hopefully improve the overall workflow in a future release

Two things - shift click is your friend here. Choose to open your dedupe in a new window rather than lose your list of contacts to de-dupe.

Also, I think the 'previous'/ 'next' option is in the dedupe improvements list - albeit it's not the item on the table right now
